The Birthday Phone Call - The Rules

Our family has a tradition of calling a family member on their birthday. There are a few unwritten rules for the phone calls. As the oldest and patriarch of the family, I feel it is my duty to document these for the ages. The rules for the Birthday Phone Call are as follows:

1) A phone call to the birthday person must be on the actual day of birth for it to count.

A) If you are in a different time zone, as long as it is the person's birthday in the time zone you are in, the phone call counts.

2) It is not necessary to actually speak to the person. A message on an answering machine is acceptable as long as it is on the actual birth day.

3) You may call someone any time of the day...but remember turnabout is fair play. If you call me at 2:00 am, expect a phone call at 1:00 am, 2:00 am, 3:00 am on your birthday.

4) If you miss the phone call, a public shunning may occur. The statue of limitations is until the person's next birthday. Hell hath no fury if you miss twice in a row.

5) If the birthday person is not old enough to speak on the phone, a phone call must be placed to the parents. It is the parents obligation to relay the message to the birthday child.

Hm....Why then, were you the last one to call dad?

As long as you meet the above criteria, when does not matter...only if.

You might add to your list that the earlier you call without awakening the birthday person, the more points you get! It barely counts if you are the last family member to call.
